A guided fishing trip on the Ebro is something that we recommended to most of our newer guests.  The Ebro is a mighty river and the usual techniques used on smaller venues may not be appropriate on this challenging water.

There are two distinct styles to fish for the Catfish, either boat fishing, allowing you to be flexible and move around the river or a bankside static approach, generally heavily baiting with pellets and waiting for the action to start. Both styles can be extremely effective on the day. You can either choose for yourself the style you would prefer or leave it to the experienced guide to decide, it’s your holiday and your choice or maybe have a mix of the two.

THE WELS CATFISH
The Wels Catfish is the ultimate freshwater predator capable of growing to sizes in excess of 200lb. A prime scavenger that eats almost anything from small carp to ducklings, catfish feed with
ferocious power from the bottom to the surface and like all predators inhabit weed beds, slacks, snags and deep holes.
Being practically blind, they hunt using a combination of their long whiskers for smell and lateral line for vibration, catching prey in their huge gripping mouths with hard Velcro like teeth.
Their muscular tail injects the speed and extreme power used for hunting and makes the Wels catfish the ultimate fighting machine for specimen anglers around the world.

CATFISH FISHING SESSIONS
At Hacienda Angling we appreciate that this is your holiday. Therefore, we will arrange with you the evening prior to fishing what session you would like to fish.

Our day rates are based on 8 hrs fishing, so we fish sessions from dawn until lunch, lunch till dusk or during the day for those who can brave the scorching summer heat.

Generally, dawn and dusk are the hottest catfish feeding spells and we will advise you upon arrival what times have been most productive.

FISHING TECHNIQUES
The Hacienda Angling experience will introduce you to this mighty fish and all the techniques and tackle used for capturing it.

We will share with you various boat fishing techniques such as trolling baits and static paternoster style float fishing. We also drift fish using a ‘Clonk’, an extremely effective method or fish buoy style from the bank.

Our guides may take you to the hot spots around Riba Roja as well as up and down stream to some of the less fished areas. We will use our extensive local knowledge to determine which of the river Ebro’s sweeping bends, deep holes and gullies will give you the greatest chance of a gripping catfish experience.
